Girlz Rock gives young ladies opportunities. I am extremely thrilled to have the chance to win a laptop which is yet another opportunity Girlz Rock is giving young girls in the community. I have been a participant in many Girlz Rock programs since the first event. Because of my experiences in the program, I know that Girlz Rock aims to empower girls and give back to the community. Girlz Rock has helped me develop confidence and become a leader. I have made an effort to give back to Girlz Rock as they have imparted many lessons of wisdom to me.

In 2015, I led an art class for the Girlz Rock young ladies.  That was another instance that Girlz Rock empowered me.  I was used to being a participant in the program, not the leader.  It pushed me to be assertive, lead others and be in control of my fear of my peers being in judgement of me.  When I was on the other side, helping instead of learning, I first felt like I wouldn’t be able teach anything but after the session I felt like I made a difference.  I felt successful.  February 26th, I volunteered with other cotillion debutantes at a powerful Girlz Rock event. It allowed me to enjoy being in service of others. On April 29th, I will be a guest on the Girlz Rock panel. I have come to realize girls like hearing things from someone their age, or of similar backgrounds. I think I can help girls know that they can assist others without being an adult which I think is something girls need to hear.

If I were to win the laptop, it would help me tremendously, especially as I am about to embark on my journey to college. In college I will need a laptop for many reasons. One of the main reasons I would need a laptop is for homework and/or research. Many assignments in today’s technology-driven world are asked to be sent online. Communication with peers on group projects is something that is likely to be a common occurrence. Other forms of online communication are also a necessity including scholarship applications, job interviews, and emailing professors. In school, I will need access to my syllabus and grades, which requires internet connection. All of the ways I could use this laptop would help me obtain the high grades I am aiming for and graduate on time.

Graduating from college would definitely help me give back. My degree is going to be English as a Second Language (ESL) which involves me traveling to other countries and teaching English to elementary school children. It has always been a dream of mine to travel and help at the same time and this job is perfect for me. However, when I have my first child, I want them to have a steady life in one place so I will be moving back to Indiana. When I come back home, I will begin my political career by starting in Civil Services then running for mayor. In this way, I will be giving back directly to my community. I will also be continuing to volunteer with the Girlz Rock program.  God-willing, I will win as mayor and after a few years I will run for governor. As my term as governor nears its end, I will announce my Presidential Campaign. My biggest dream I have had is to be the first African-American female president. I know that I can achieve my dreams and it would be the ultimate way to give back to my community. As president, I would not only run the country, but I would hopefully be a role model to young girls like the ones who attend the Girlz Rock events and show that anyone could succeed and accomplish anything they set their mind to which Girlz Rock has reinforced.

During the summers when I am home from college, I plan to help and assist with a Girlz Rock event. I can teach the young girls about college life and give them tips to get through their first years as I will have the experience, I can help talk about how to do well academically, and I can support the girls and show them how to be leaders.
